Cheap and easy way to remove acrylic nails.
It’s been forever since I got my nails professionally done. A little over three weeks ago I got them prettied up with acrylic tips for my sister-n-laws beautiful wedding. Since then, they’ve become slightly unattractive and probably grown past the point of refilling. I’m ready for them to come off.
In the past, I would trim the tip with a nail clipper and file the acrylic down with a buffer. Although it worked, the process was too long and I couldn’t always get all of it off without damaging my nails. So this time I turned to the internet for some quick do-it-yourself solutions.
After about thirty minutes of searching on Google, I narrowed the options down to two methods. The first one requires you to soak your fingers in a ziploc bag of acetone, placed in a bowl of hot water for about eight minutes. The second option requires dental flossers. I tested both to see which way would work best.
The floss option was the clear winner for me. The acetone method barely did anything to the acrylic. It might’ve softened it up just a bit, but not enough to wipe away with a cotton ball as the internet suggested. It also left my fingers very dry. The floss method was really easy and hardly took any time. This method pulls a little of the top layer off your natural nail but overall it wasn’t terrible. Just make sure you are not yanking the floss too hard or fast. I wish I would’ve discovered this sooner!
Follow the directions below to remove acrylic nails yourself. All you need are a few dental flossers.
Directions
1. Take the pointy part of your flosser to pry up the bottom of the acrylic nail. Start with the edges working your way in until the bottom detaches.
2. Next, slip the floss under the acrylic nail and gently pull the floss through while using another finger to hold down the bottom portion of the nail.
3. Repeat the process to remove the rest.
That’s it - simple as that. You’ll want to buff your nails to clean them up a bit, apply moisturizer and nail strengthener afterwards.
